Dabiq

and Global Warming As An End-Time Scenario

The Syrian town of Dabiq, which Turkish-backed Syrian rebels are seeking to wrest back from so-called Islamic State (IS), has figured heavily in the jihadist group's propaganda since 2014 and is the name of its English-language magazine.

IS has focused on the dusty backwater not because of any strategic importance or the size of its population - the Syrian census of 2004 recorded that little over 3,000 people were living there - but because it holds great symbolic value.

Dabiq, which lies about 10km (6 miles) from the border with Turkey, features in Islamic apocalyptic prophecies as the site of an end-of-times showdown between Muslims and their "Roman" enemies.

The Prophet Muhammad is believed to have said that "the last hour will not come" until Muslims vanquished the Romans at "Dabiq or al-Amaq" - both in the Syria-Turkey border region - on their way to conquer Constantinople (modern-day Istanbul).

IS has been seeking to bring on that battle by goading its enemies to confront it there. And now the Turkish-led force is reportedly closing in.

A few years back, a geek like myself at the time, told me that global warming was God doing a "reset on the human race."

The last time our vengeful thin-skinned Creator got angry with what He considered His masterpiece, He drowned most of them, even children; newborns and the yet to be born who would have had no idea as to why they were candidates for murder.

For His next attempt at getting it right, God saved a power hungry buffoon by the name of Noah and his family from drowning.

Second time around for a God whose knowledge of the future, a this point has to be suspect, must have turned out much worse then when He created a couple who could be seduced by a snake. How else would you explain His transformation from a reasonably compassionate killer who chose a relatively quick painless drowning death for his wayward creation to One who would now see it slowly roast to death?

When you witness your proudest accomplishment mutate into the hordes of murderous morons of Islamic State, the likes of which has not been seen since the Dark Ages, can you blame God, any god for wanting to put an end to the embarrassment.

Can you blame a god for getting some painful payback for all He did for the miserable ingrates who perverted His message about loving each other into loving Him as if He was some needy, narcissistic monstrosity who would smite them if they didn't?

Roasting to death is too good for them. Still, it is unfortunate that humanity's fickle omnipotent invisible friend is an all or nothing type of guy.

I take no comfort in His spokesperson's assurances that when Allah commits murder on a genocidal scale it does not mean that all those He indiscriminately slaughters will be ineligible for Paradise.

Narrated Ibn Umar:

Allah's Apostle said, "If Allah sends punishment upon a nation then it befalls upon the whole population indiscriminately and then they will be resurrected (and judged) according to their deeds."

Bukhari 88.224

Why could He not just dispose of the murderous morons who believe in the nonsense of Dabiq and more and cause so much death and destruction in His Name, as He sees fit, by simply making them see the Light. Why kill everyone in such a horrendous fashion. It's enough to make you believe there is no God.
